What, actually, the heck
This reads way more like the house comes from the Chrestomanci series but then she shoehorned on a Howl’s Moving Castle plot, sort of, except badly, because this is the second book in a row where Howl has been transformed for Reasons Of Plot and I am unimpressed. I am not against incompetent protags but for the love of god she needs to be likable and the MC wasn’t.
Also there is something deeply, deeply weird and concerning about the monsters & monster reproduction that I kept expecting to be subverted but it wasn’t??? So instead we’re just left with a race that rapes people, plants eggs in them, and then the offspring are Irredeemably Evil. That seems fine.
