Lovely little love story
I loved Bel Canto. It was unusual--a universe of its own. I was excited to read more Ann Patchett, but this was entirely of our world. Or, of a world that exists but that I am not a part of and do not like or have an interest in. A bunch of uninteresting, shallow people talk about uninteresting, shallow things. And I don't know anything about Our Town, which seems like a prerequisite towards enjoying this book.
I think I have come to realize that I just don't like characters who are wealthy and "artistic" and completely removed from any of the realities and pains of real life because they are so busy being creative and free-spirited. I'm maybe a bit stone-hearted and definitely too pragmatic for that bs.

Slowly unraveling a lovely story of love and loss down memory lane. I finished it in 2 days as it was an easy read. Recommend .
For me, this book ends at Chapter 20. The rest is Patchett’s way of bringing closure and some symbolism to the story and the circle of life or however the reader wants to define it. I know West Michigan very well. It’s a beautiful place and the variety along the coast is unmatched by anything else found in the US. But this story is so much more that the beauty of what’s around the characters. It really has some very deep insights that I did not expect from a modern novel. Well done Ms. Patchett.
