it took me ten days to get halfway through and I think that says enough about how I felt. there was just nothing keeping me reading, I didn’t like the dual timeline and I didn’t like the characters, and I thought it was boring

Amazing! How did Ann Patchett know the dynamics of a mother and three young grown daughters so well? I, being that mother, was amazed at the accuracy of it: the mother belongs and is known of her children, but at the same time, she is her own person with stories only known to herself. Five million stars!!
