This book was so cute and I liked it a lot, the author made me laugh with their phrasing but the end was a bit sad and the overall concept was kinda depressing too.

This novel kind of wanders as Nomi wanders her town and her life. I enjoyed it.

I understand now why this book seemed hard to pin down for a cover blurb, and why I was too young for it the first time I tried to read it. It is, yes, a story about a Mennonite girl in a small prairie town who dreams of something more. There is a mystery of sorts. But mostly it's about loss and love and discovering and being and trying and youth and hope and resignation and all the little seemingly aimless moments that come together into a life. This is the kind of book that finds a place deep within you and burrows in and lingers. Nomi Nickel pulled me into her world and her mind with fierce veracity and wherever she is now, I hope she's found happiness.
