I was intrigued by the premise of this book, a reality TV-inspired romance featuring Gannon, a grumpy but lovable contractor, and Paige, a no-nonsense field producer. Gannon? Absolute dreamboat, talented, protective, and charming in his rough-around-the-edges way. Paige, on the other hand, was a different story.

Paige was... difficult to like, to put it kindly. She starts out as someone you want to root for—a hardworking, ambitious woman trying to navigate the male-dominated world of reality TV. But as the story went on, her character veered into frustrating territory. Her refusal to listen to Gannon or give him the benefit of the doubt felt unnecessary and forced for drama. It was just soooooo infuriating and hard to read. And don’t get me started on her bizarre hang-up about what’s “too feminine” for his house, it felt hypocritical and completely at odds with her supposed feminist ideals.

While the plot had its sweet moments (and Gannon’s interactions with kids melted my heart), Paige’s constant chip on her shoulder made it hard to fully enjoy the story. Her stubbornness felt less like strength and more like immaturity, which left me cringing rather than cheering for her.

Would I recommend this for everyone? Probably not. But if you’re into reality TV-inspired romances and don’t mind an unbearable heroine, this might still be worth a read.

3 stars. This was fine. Kind of a cute story, although incredibly predictable. A little spicy for me. I found the relationship to be a little unbelievable or unrelatable as well. Bought and read this because I want to read The Christmas Fix and I found out it was part of a series, so I’m hoping I line the sequel better.
