Honestly, this is so short and sweet that I barely have any complaints. I love the writing style pretty much from the get-go; it's pretty but doesn't drag on too much to the point of being too wordy. If I could name a single flaw, it is that sometimes a new paragraph would introduce a new, seemingly unrelated topic out of nowhere, that could throw off a reader if they weren't focused. But otherwise, this was a solid read, both as the first of series and a standalone.

Loosely set in Meiji/Taisho era in Japan during which western influence was introduced, the novel is a warm-hearted historical romance about the hapless Miyo Saimori born without supernatural ability and Kiyoka Kudou, the best Gift user in the current era. As with most modern Japanese novels, it's a feel-good and light-hearted read that doesn't require too much brainpower. Apparently, the manga version is quite good that the series has its own anime adaptation ❤️

I picked this up after watching the anime which I loved. There’s more details in the novel that add to the world building and characters.

I’ve read other Cinderella inspired stories but this one stands out in my opinion. This story mainly focuses on healing from trauma and two people learning to love and be loved. There are also fantastical elements and politics which I’m invested in too.
