Genius framework and intriguingly layered. And although I’m sure the ending spawned hundreds of interesting interpretations, I found it unsatisfying in comparison to the rest of the novel.

I enjoyed this read. The writing style was different than anything else I have read before. A story hidden within a story. It was unique and unconventional. I enjoyed the letter aspect.

4 strangers in the library hear a scream that connects them and gets them talking to each other. The 4 quickly become friends. The scream turns out to be from a girl who was murdered and the friends become a team working to find out what happened (Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys anyone?).

I enjoyed the way the author would write the story of the mystery and then the letter after each chapter from Leo talking about what happened within the chapter. This story was a fun whodoneit and I enjoyed the journey finding out who the culprit was. And boy was I surprised!

Gripping, chilling , bingeworthy! I thoroughly enjoyed this story. The epistolary element was so unique and the characters were very likeable. The main POV was interesting, and her story arc swept the story in an interesting direction. This book has a strong plot and interesting characters. I would recommend it to thriller readers. Thank you to Netgalley and Poisoned Pen Press for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This book had a really unique concept. The letters confused me to begin with. Once I understood them then I really appreciated them. The book kept me interested throughout.

Every so often I find myself in "did I not really get what this book or doing or did I get it just fine and not entirely like it"? The entwined narratives of this novel caught me that way; I kept wondering what exactly was behind the meta-commentary choice. It definitely added to the experience of the novel and the way it called attention to specific things - and it rewards reflection, which I guess is a net positive. But it feels like meta-text on the text rather than entirely integral. I wanted it to be doing more.
The internal story was twisty in all the right ways and I very much appreciated how it worked itself out, coincidences aside. It's not a mystery novel without coincidences.

3.25 Stars.

I found this book really interesting, and the idea of a book within a book was super cool. The ending I feel could have had a bit more to it, but otherwise I think it was a good book and I enjoyed it.

I really enjoyed this little mystery. A cast of characters. Alittle confusing in the beginning keeping track of real people versus characters but then this little mystery sucks you in. I loved that at one point I had decided each of them had committed the murder. Which obviously they all didn’t.
