Spectacular. Some of it felt trite but I had to keep reminding myself how outlandish it was for her to be so "content" in herself... Or at least pretending to be. It has some awful, sad beautiful poems. I loved it.

Sun, rain, curving sky
Mountain, oceans, leaf and stone
Star shine, moon glow
You're all that I can call my own

Though the most famous, was not my favorite so far of Angelou's collections.

Some worthwhile pieces in here; some excerpts:

"Knowing something.
Going someplace.
But this time, you will simply
Stand and watch.
Maybe."

"And now I’ll tell you my Golden Rule,
I was born to work but I ain’t no mule.
I was born to work up to my grave
But I was not born To be a slave."

"You may write me down in history
With your bitter, twisted lies,
You may trod me in the very dirt
But still, like dust, I’ll rise."
