After reading Code, I realized how much better the other two were than this.

Enjoying this series so far! Just enough adventure, mystery and intrigue to keep you guessing throughout. The young Tory Brennan (Temperance Brennan's grand-niece) Lots of twists and turns that make the underlying mystery solving take a little longer, but it doesn't distract too much from the flow. The Audiobook narration is very well done, which makes listening to series very enjoyable!

I had no clue why the title was Seizure. For all I knew, seizure meant something to do with a stroke or a heart attack and could possibly result in death if not fixed ASAP. I could be wrong with that definition as well. What I never knew however, was the other definition. The Dictionary enlightened me:

I guess I was partially right. Apparently there goes proof I'm not a walking/talking dictionary. Living proof. I'm honestly better off as a spellchecker any day. I must be bored if I did know the definition for every word that exists. Extremely bored. To the point of desperation. Which isn't happening any day until the zombie apocalypse at the least.

Seizure is the second novel in the Virals series (first book is Virals, but my review for it never existed on this planet because my book blogging life never existed at the time) written by Kathy Reichs. It's been awhile after the Virals have transformed from a super-virus. Due to financial problems, Loggerhead Island is at risk to be shut down, and the Virals may have to separate, facing the super-virus on their own. At least until Tory Brennan hears about Anne Bonny's legend. It's said that her treasure is buried right in Charles Town, but no one has succeeded in finding it for around 3 centuries.

What I like about Seizure is the storyline. It's creative, and it twists a legend (I don't know the actual legend though) to fit in with what's going on with the Virals after their transformation. I also love how the characters have changed a lot from the first novel, or at least, most of them, and how there are new characters introduced. Whitney's still as annoying as before (just get out of Tory's hair already! Dx) and Chance hasn't changed much. As for everyone else? Well, I can't say. I can say they changed, but I can't say how. I might as well tape an index card on my forehead with the words SPOILER.

What I dislike? My prediction (always. I fear I'm aiming correctly... even though I have terrible accuracy). I sense a love triangle coming soon. And as typical as it goes with love triangles in YA, it might get ugly with the tension. The best part about that though? I might be off the mark. Or I may be bull's eye (I hope not!). Don't take my prediction for granted. It's just a thought. I might be wrong, or I might be right. I guess we'll see.

Speaking of which, the third book in the series, Code, came out last Wednesday, March 12. Who's excited for a new Virals adventure? :D

Buying Virals, I had no idea what lay ahead. I soon found out after a few guns shots and chests full of treasure. CRACK! CRACK!

As having to do with the Temperance Brennan franchise or Bones, there was no way I could dismiss this series. I’ve never honestly read a book with so much adventure, deceit, treachery, betrayal, and danger. In about 400+ pages Virals had me hooked, lined, and sunk. It wasn’t until I started Seizer that I realized how sunk I was. I didn’t know exactly what I was expecting in the second book.

A stormy sea, maybe? Swash buckling pirates? Spanish doubloons? Crazy Chance Claybourne? Actual wolves? I wasn’t sure. My thoughts ran in a completely different plane.

Ever since Tory Brennan caught wind of her dad’s impending job loss, she debates every possible solution with her pack of DNA-altered, awesomely-loyal, friends or Virals. One ridiculous and seemingly insurmountable adventure pops up one cotillion event after being verbally dissed by the Tripod yet again.

That’s where the swash buckling pirates come in. One with such a name as Anne Bonny.

I have to say, I haven’t read a good present-set book since Colleen Houck’s [b:Tiger’s Voyage], so this book was a very very pleasant surprise. It was a nice change after read dystopian book after dystopian after dystopian book. Though I’m sure I will be back into the swing of things soon. The lack of romance which was not totally gone was a good change of pace, as most YA books today include tons and tons of romance. I don’t have a problem with that. The little that was in there was enough and I’m glad it was indeed kept at a minimum. Any more would have been weird for this style book. I am rooting for Tory and Ben to be together, but I know it probably won’t happen.

One of my favorite things about The Virals series is that you never know who the bad guy is. Never. The people who you think are going to be the main antagonist are usually either killed or you’re totally wrong about them. The characters respond the same way.

Tory Brennan’s cockiness and arrogance almost made me turn the book away, set it down and forget about it. But soon she grew on me and if we ever met in this life, we’d quickly become best friends. Even though I am definitely not as smart as the other Virals, I think we would get along quickly. But I’m sure I’d be an outsider since I don’t have wolf DNA running through my veins or an experimental strain of parvovirus. No matter how hard I wish I did, I don’t. I know the Virals would probably disagree in some areas.

But no matter how hard they try to hide their eyes, they’ll never be normal again. That’s what draws them together, with Tory as the strongest and fieriest link. They’re a pack. A family.

I could read Kathy Reich's all day. I love this new YA series. It's so engrossing.
