I'm not really sure how to rate this one, maybe a 3.5. I really liked it and the series but honestly I was confused by some of what happened about the ending and needed my husband to explain it - maybe because I just don't have a base knowledge of Christianity? My husband absolutely loves this series so much, it felt bad to disappoint him with my lackluster feelings after the fact. It just didn't come together in that big lovely "Oh my gosh!" moment like I feel it should have.

One of those books for which five stars isn't enough. I remember reading the ending of this book with tears streaming down my face years ago; I think it is one of the first books I read that made me cry and realise the emotional power of books. Rereading it now that I'm older, I can appreciate Philip Pullman's genius all the more. He blew my mind. Everything from this series's worlds, creatures, characters, language, and commentary is incredible and special.

Woah! So many new characters were introduced, so many new plot points are introduced. I had no idea that this is where the story will lead to when I was reading this book. Inspite of so many new things that happened, it was very clear what the author wanted to convey.
It makes so much sense why this book has been banned. It is worth reading for anyone who can. Stories like these challenge everything we assume to be true and are worth spreading.
I loved this whole trilogy.

completely lost me, took me ages to finish it because it just took such a sharp decline in quality from the second book which itself was not nearly as good as the first. plot makes absolutely no sense. there were moments where it was really good but the story itself was just not it.

What a melancholy couple of closing chapters. Overall, I think I enjoyed each passing book of this trilogy less than its predecessor, and looking back, the two book road to the inevitable heartbreaking ending was maybe crafted too perfectly for my tastes. So many wonderful characters though!
