I loved spending time with Perry in this book as much as I loved spending time with her Auntie Daunis in Firekeeper's Daughter. I also really liked Shense and would like to know more of her story. I love the way Boulley makes the community of Sugar Island come alive and I selfishly hope she keeps writing books set there. This book tackles the difficult topics of violence against native women and the ongoing struggle over repatriation in a compelling way. I didn't ever want to put the book down. The ending felt a bit rushed and it was a LOT, but that wouldn't stop me from highly recommending this book.

The characters were fun and the central conflict of human remains and cultural artifacts being stolen was timely and necessary. The plot left something to be desired, but I kind of didn't care because Perry and friends were fun to follow along with. This book didn't hit me the way Firekeeper's Daughter did, but it was still enjoyable.
