Really enjoyed it but didnt care for the ending when it kept jumping back and forth

Good book from a well known author and very enjoyable.

What a pleasant surprise! Okay I will admit it, I am sometimes a book snob, and when an author, like Nicholas Sparks, is uber popular I tend to tip my nose in the air and ignore his work. It's weird, I know. Plus his books are so sad( I sometimes wonder if he is a bit of a sadist who wants to make millions of women cry...). I had very little expectations for this book. However, I absolutely adored it!

It wasn't perfect. It was melodramatic, it was overly detailed, I rolled my eyes, but I am completely aware that I was rolling my eyes and sighing in rapture simultaneously. This might be melodrama but I ate it up. The book caught my attention immediately, and I refused to put it down until the very last (sadly) page.

The characters of Katie and Alex, and Alex's children, were likable and well developed. If they weren't fictional, I would so want to be their friend. The mystery of who Katie was and what she was running from was intriguing (if not wildly original and unpredictable), and there was a heck of a lot of suspense. The slow build of the romance was fantastic and I absolutely felt the characters falling in love, even while I felt this undercurrent of danger throughout the book. This book evoked a lot of emotions in me. There were tears (of course it is a Sparks' novel), smiles, and terror--what a great combo!.

While I might complain about Sparks' penchant for describing the minutiae of every day life (My God, the cooking references were redonculous), he certainly can set a scene. I was transported to a South Carolina summer and could just about taste the storms and the sweat.

A word about the ending, I went in knowing all about it, and I know it coloured my reading of the book. Thanks internet spoilers. You don't suck at all. Anyway, the ending worked for me, but I am curious about the reaction of others.

Well that was unexpectedly wonderful! I thoroughly enjoyed it and I miss Alex and Katie already. They are the kind of characters that will stick with me and I will miss them. So, if you are looking for a suspenseful and sweet read, with likable characters and a fast paced plot then this is a good place to start.

A bit different from the usual Nicholas Sparks novel.

I loved it from start to finish!

Such an easy, enjoyable read.
