It's not very often that I have trouble reviewing a book. This one, I can't even seem to summarize. I want to say it's a commentary on the emptiness of Hollywood and the accompanying lifestyle. The use of the second person gives it a detached, dreamlike quality, as does the purposefully repetitive nature of the prose. James Franco and other celebrities are the characters. While I'm not quite sure exactly what it was I just read, it defeinitely made a favorable impression. I was tempted to write a jokey review in the second person but decided against it.

That's about all I can say. If you like Bizarro fiction, you'll definitely want to experience this one for yourself.

I have no idea what to make of what I just read but I loved every minute of it.

You want to write something clever after reading a book like this, but you just lack the words to do it. So you just decide you'll review it the best way you can after finishing it....

I tore through this book with fervor. This is my 2nd Kleine book and I adore it to pieces. Kanley Stubrick hooked me and now I am plowing through his writings as I get hold of them. How do I describe this book? I don't. I can't. The writing is engaging. The interactions are dream-like in this second person adventure. Occasionally we receive what may be lists of authors and music and movies that the author seems to admire or enjoy (or, you, as the narrator?) and there is a soundtrack of songs on nearly every page. I feel I will have to check out Vampire Weekend, for sure.

Reviewing this book for me is impossible other than to say I enjoyed it. Every page, every chapter, kept me curious to see where the author takes me while laying out beautiful imagery and providing me with more of James Franco than I ever imagined spending time with.

When I read Kanley Stubrick, I realized there was an author, and other authors, who think and write a lot like I do. It was eye-opening. Since that time and reading Mastodon Farm, I've discovered a network of like-minded authors and it has encouraged and enhanced how I see the world and tell my own stories.
