So much vomiting and death and pooping. The writing was beautiful but I just couldn’t stomach the material.

This book felt like homework to me. I did not look forward to picking it up everyday. If I was not attending a book discussion about this book it may have been a DNF for me. The prose was outstanding but the story did nothing for me. At said book discussion another lady said it best when she said “this is the most beautifully written, most boring book I have ever read”. I cannot sum it up better than that.

2 stars given for cover art and prose.

Had a slow start for me but picked up about a quarter of the way through. Groff’s writing is always lyrical and engaging and this book is no different. The ending is absolutely transcendent
