I don’t know what I was expecting, but it wasn’t *that*. This book surprised me again and again. The plot of The Vaster Wilds felt incredibly original but also true to its time period (17th century-ish colonial America). The third person omniscient storytelling was fascinating and satisfying to read, as it gives keen insight into the confusing, mysterious, and terrifying world that is the wastelands of colonial mid-Atlantic America. Being along the journey of “the girl” in the wild was sneakily philosophical and incredibly thought-provoking. There are some gruesome parts that had me physically recoiling from what I was reading! However, those moments really made the story feel full and authentic to the time period. I’m blown away by this book and I know its story will stay with me.
