This was a pretty good start to a mystery series I can't believe all the drama with her ex holy moly girl.
Noodles, the main character's dog, won my heart right from the beginning! And the story kept me engaged. The mystery is an interesting one, the cover of the book is eye-catching, the characters are fun and the town is rather sweet. And Trinidad's (main character) grandpa is simply charming! All in all, a fun book to get into, especially for someone like me who needs a break from the thrillers and horror books I regularly read. I will have to check out the next one in this cozy mystery series.
I adored this book! The characters are fun and Noodles is just the bestest boy. Trinidad is such a relatable character for me and I like her gumption. I normally read Agatha Christie mysteries but decided to branch out a bit and I’m glad this was the book I chose. I’m going to be starting her second book, “A Sprinkle in Time” tonight. I can’t wait to see all the good citizens of Upper Sprocket!
A fresh entry into the world of cozy mysteries. I found myself delighted with this story of a woman who moves to her ex-husband's town and works to open a new ice cream shop. Has all the hallmarks of a typical cozy mystery, including a dog, with a well-written plot and great characters. Keeping my eye out for more from this author.
Trinidad is one of the three former wives of a white-collar criminal named Gabe. She is now divorced from said con-man and has relocated to her ex-husband's hometown. Why? Well, the only good thing he seems to have done was leave her a building in Upper Sprocket, Oregon. Trinidad Jones is opening an ice cream shop that will feature fantastical giant shakes with loads of toppings that she calls Freakshakes. Just a few weeks before her July 4th opening, Trinidad stumbles across a dead body.
Dana Mentink's book includes everything that makes a cozy a cozy. We have a quirky small town, We have an amateur sleuth who is new to town. Trinidad has this wonderful dog named Noodles who flunked out of service-dog school and was rescued by her. Trinidad makes a friend and that draws her into the murder investigation. Trinidad also meets Quinn the nut farmer who is a military veteran that is also the caretaker of his brother. I can't imagine anyone reading this book and not thinking Quinn is a great guy. There is a real tender friendship, leading to affection and a future romance (?) between Trinidad and Quinn that is so lovely to read.
The suspects all have good motives and the red herrings and clues make perfect sense in the story. I appreciated that in this series the police chief is not a love interest, and she is portrayed as very competent at her job. Additionally, as the story and the sleuthing goes on, Trinidad isn't out running around putting herself in danger and leaving the police investigation out of the loop.
I think this is an excellent example of a cozy mystery and I would recommend it to anyone looking to start reading the genre. I'm looking forward to reading more in the series!
5 stars, I don't really have any complaints!
I received an ARC of this book from #NetGalley, #PintofNoReturn. All of the opinions are mine!

Start of a cozy mystery series with a more idiotic setup than most. Yes, we have the newly single woman coming to a town to start a business. However, she comes to a town where her jailed ex-husband is from, for no apparent reason, and where two other ex's live. Oh, yeah, and his sister is the police chief.
However, given the basic stupidity of that opening, the story does flow ok with the usual cast of characters. Even with the annoyingly stereotyped twins, it's a simple, average read, a nice bit of time to spend. I'll read the next.

Super cute first book in a new cozy mystery series by Dana Mentink. This book walks through what one divorcee goes through when her embezzler husband deeds her a storefront in the same town as his other two ex-wives. Talk about awkward. What makes this book stand out are the yummy sounding shake combinations, not a super annoying main character, a cast of characters that seem to be all connected in ways that are surprising, and a somewhat predictable ending, however the author was good at keeping me guessing.
After Trinidad's now ex-husband sits in jail for embezzling, the ex deeds her a storefront in his hometown. The same town where his 2 other ex-wives live with businesses also deeded to them from their ex, and the town where her ex's sister is the chief of police. When Trinidad finds the body of her business neighbor and one of her new friend's is the suspect, Trinidad does all she can to prove her friend's innocence. With the help of two brothers, Quinn and Doug, her trusty side dog, Noodles, and her very social grandpa, Papa, Trinidad digs more into the life of the victim and why someone wanted him dead.
