I protect what's mine. The ranch, my family, our buried secrets. Nothing will stop me from reassembling the life that went terribly wrong.
This second book in The Trails of Sin trilogy was significantly less dark than the first book but continues the story of four friends who had their lives turned upside down and the aftermath that follows.
In this book Jarrett meets a reporter in town, Maybe, who is very interested in the family and their secrets, but she has secrets of her own.
Jarrett and Maybe's relationships happens FAST, and I think that's my only reservation on giving this book a higher rating. Jarrett especially just falls SO hard and SO fast that it made it feel a little less real.
No less spicy and dominating and HOT though. And the end means I'll definitely be picking up the next book immediately.
And so my love for cowboys continues to grow....
“He presses his lips firmly against mine, controlling the depth and asserting the rhythm. The heat of his mouth is my home, the clench of his fingers my sanctuary. He’s my greatest torment and constant salvation, my beginning, my end, and all the roads between. The whole damn world should stop on its axis and take note, because no man alive knows how to love a woman like he does.”

(Originally gave this a 4.5/5 but after considering it a couple days later it deserves a solid 5/5 like I gave the other two)
I enjoyed this one a lot, the only thing thats keeping it from a full five star rating is that I don't think it was at the same level as the first which I rated a huge 5 stars but it was damn close!!
Jarret and Maybe were such a heartbreaking couple, they knew the entire time that their time was limited and it broke my heart watching it all play out. However like the first one it ripped my heart out but mended it together before the book was over. In the spirit of keeping it spoiler free I can't say much but Jarret at the end of the book, continuing to show up for Maybe.... yeah that got me, I was bawling.
I loved Maybe's spirit, she was a strong FMC and seeing her finally get the HEA she's always wanted made me so happy. And just like his brother Jarret had me swooning like no other, also the mouth on these men?? lordy lordy its just so spicy.
Again no spoilers but the twist???? I did not see that coming, I had many different ways of the secret she was keeping playing out but that was not it! So props for that one!!
I truly haven't read anything like this series and I am just eating it up. I loved the little glimpses of Jake and Conor too. A great follow up to the first book. Excited for Lorne's story next!

I did not think the second book would be as hot as the first one, but yes! Just WOW! I absolutely loved Jarrett and Maybe. Their story followed and it was just as amazing as Jake's. Why do men like this only exist in books?
Lorne here I come.

Wow, Jarret is extremely protective and possessive. I totally didn't guess Maybe's past. Chicken the cow sounds cute. I'm totally excited for Lorne and Raina's story. I can't even guess why Raina is with Jarret and Jakes dad! Ugh the mystery behind it all!

Story picking up for me now. Definitely not the same kind of guy I thought he was from the first book.

I understand why the FMC needs some space after finding out all the secrets, but I’m annoyed at the whole 3rd act breakup.
The MMC loves her so much and so hard. Every girl wants to be loved like that.
Final Review: A very generous 4⭐️
Didn’t enjoy this book as much as the first one. Definitely was a bit more far fetched. Enjoyed the MCs banter and chemistry. Ends in a Happy For Now with a cliffhanger/continuation for the third book.

I just about inhaled this book as fast as book one! Pam Godwin has me hooked! The banter and chemistry between Jarret and Maybe was top tier. All of the small spicy tastes leading up to the scene in the field were hot AF. The twist when we finally learn Maybe’s secret was unexpected and definitely broke my heart for Maybe and Jarret. I’m glad they got their HEA and the set up for Lorne’s book was

I just finished this book with a grin on my face, but dread in my heart. There's a happy ending, but tendrils of unfinished business for that I'm sure we'll see in Book Three. This book had some very dark and bereft themes in this book, but the overwhelming theme of righting wrongs and love for family is the main theme. This book can be read as a stand alone, but it would be a serious disservice to the series, and a loss to the reader. Go back, read Knotted, then come back. Together, these books will take you on a dark, yet loving roller coaster ride of emotions.
We were introduced to Maybe Quinn in Knotted. She and Jarrett had sparks in that book... Through this book we get to see both their skeletons, and how far they'd go for love and truth. I enjoyed the plot; it had some interesting twists and turns that kept it fast paced and entertaining.
I liked these characters. They were a little tougher to fully envision right away, a departure from Knotted; but they had an enduring depth and charismatic drives that made me stick with them. For both, there was a solid strength and desire for truth and sense of right and wrong. Maybe has secrets she's hiding and we know Jarrett has things he'd be hiding from her. But how those secrets and hidden agendas and ulterior motives have the most unique intersections and implications for our characters.
“Good Gold Almighty. Cowboys do nothing for me, but the two men who just strolled in redefine my preconceived notions of rugged ranchers....There's an air about them, a confidence, an authoritative intensity that grabs a woman by the ovaries and reduces her to the most primitive core.” These two characters have a darker vibe than the sweet Conor and Jake. But their connection is strong and their love blooms, despite the darkness.
I was excited to read this book after loving Knotted. This did not disappoint. It was a great second book, with it's own plot and separate characters. This author weaves an impressive tale to unearth truth and love and help these characters grow and move forward. There are amazing lines that give the story such vivid power, “We're a combustible vortex of acid and corrosion, gunpowder and sparks. One lit match and we'll go up in flames.”
I felt all the feels in this book. It was great to see more about Jake and Conor, but see Jarrett come into his own and get to know him. This book does a great job of giving the Maybe and Jarrett a happy ending, while setting up book three for Lorne.
“A man cannot be good unless he possesses the capacity to be evil. Decency is a choice. It's being tempted to hatred and following a different path no matter how difficult. It's looking inward a with a magnifying glass and acknowledging the flaws and weaknesses in one's character.”
