Space-soap-opera? Check. Character hiding in plain view? Check. Deus ex machina? Check. Predictable characters and plot? Check. Pedantic mansplaining of completely non-essential points of theoretical physics? tl; dr. Rampant and unnecessary sexism? Sweet jeebus, check. I ddn't dislike the book, but it literally added nothing. It was 400 pages of setting up an outcome that was the logical end of a situation he started setting up in the previous book. And the surprise charater who turned out to not be what she appeared was about as unexpected as a thing that was not at all unexpected. It was mildly amusing. That counts for something, right?

This one was pretty good. You can tell his writing style changed in the time between the first three books and this one. That means this book covered one big story rather than several small ones.

Excellent as always. In my opinion, a better book to end on than the third.
That being said, it feels like it might have a bit of a "sequel-itis", tacking on additional plots for the sake of the franchise. Entertaining regardless, and I'm looking forward to the fifth.

Most Asimov fans don’t really love the sequels and I can understand why. While this one isn’t written as frustratingly as some of his other later Foundation books, the story just didn’t get me on board. The characters here are pretty interesting but the book just feels too interested in itself. Takes too long to get going and doesn’t keep you with the twists and turns.

I'm having a hard time articulating my thoughts on this book. The themes and sci-fi elements are really good, but some of the thought processes and dialogs seemed forced. The books and and plots aren't the strongest, but everytime I read an Asimov book there is just a feeling that hits. I see how much influence he has had, how much he shaped the genre.
Not my favorite so far, but better than others!

Loved the characters and adventures in this one. A lot of things that I did not see coming too. Asimov loves a big reveal in the last few chapters. Looking forward to reading the next one.
