I was thrilled to have early access to read this new release by Cali. I've read a few of her books this year and honestly, I think this one was the best! I LOVED Nico's cocky, yet confident attitude and really loved how much he and Harper just couldn't resist each other. There's something so good about a forbidden romance. I really liked that they were both chasing their dreams and were so supportive of each other in doing so. The way that Nico was just so sure was amazing to read. He respected her without being overbearing. Definitely make sure to add this one to your TBR! Thank you so much to the author for the ARC copy!

Story could be good and interesting but the dialogue felt so forced and unnatural for these characters. It was rushed and cringey. Too try hard.

Characters lacked personality and the story progressed randomly and for convenience. There was even a car crash at the end, which was so random and sudden? I don’t get it.
Book lacked actual hockey gameplay. The actual hockey-ness of things is strictly confined to the MMC. Even then you couldn’t feel how popular he is or how he’s trying to fit in as a rookie. Nothing. Both MMC and FMC are boring. The FMC lacked an identity and had no qualities that would make her remotely appealing to anybody. The MMC is obsessive after meeting her for 5 whole minutes doing nothing much. Seems too much of puppy love/instalove that doesn’t actually grow into anything.
Nobody has conversations about anything that’s remotely important and the last 1/4 was just a convenient ending to introduce new characters for the next book.
Definitely needs a better editor and better storyline.

smut was solid. first chapter (when they meet) is a phenomenal set up. however, nico is just pushy and arrogant. harper doesn't really want to do anything (since it'll risk her job) but nico is like "ok, i respect your wishes" then turns around and basically forces himself on her. total bull. it was just bizarre and i didn't enjoy it.
