I really struggled with this book, there were moments I absolutely loved and then the rest of it was meh and I just couldn’t fully get into it
lighthearted

wow, i read this for a bookclub and just overall did not like it. character development was a 1/5 and the plot was like a 2/5. it felt like the characters only personality traits were hockey player and photographer. it was definitely an insta-love situation and they knew nothing about each other before dating (or whatever they were doing at first). i feel like i still barely know anything about either characters aside from their professions and a few details about their families.

The dialogue was so clunky and unnatural. Half the stuff they were saying had me rolling my eyes. People don’t talk like this.

I devoured this book in one sitting! It was such a quick, sweet, spicy read. If you’re looking for a good book to get you out of a reading slump, this is it!

This book follows Nico & Harper. Nico is a rookie on the Orchid City Vipers professional hockey team. His main focus has always been hockey & now that he’s finally made his dream come true, he’s determined to do everything in his power to keep it. That is at least until he meets Harper one night at the club. They instantly hit it off & end up making out in a closet until they’re interrupted & Nico has to leave. A few days later he runs into her again at the last place he would expect… the hockey rink. Harper is the teams newest sports photographer. Nico instantly wants another chance with her but Harper is more hesitant after finding out he’s a player on the team & it’s against the rules to fraternize with the players. Only problem? Nico isn’t taking no for an answer. He’s used to getting what he wants & he’s got his sights set on Harper. Will they be able to keep their relationship a secret?

I loved these two together. Nico was the perfect mix of charming & sweet yet dominant, cocky, & protective. Harper was so sassy & always matched Nico’s energy. The chemistry between them? Off the charts! The spice was so good

This was a super cute and fun read! It was fun and lighthearted in its “forbidden” romance aspect of having them sneaking around and trying not to get caught when everyone knows they have feelings for each other.

Though I wish there was more story than smut, which is totally fine if you like that sort of thing but for me I just kinda wish we got to see more of the characters full fill their dreams and overall have a more definitive ending.

It ended with Harper saying she’s going to start her own photography business but we don’t actually see it. The relationship between the two main characters is described as this passionate deep love but there is no further development in their relationship they don’t get engaged or married it kinda just ends.

I love Nico how sweet and supportive he was

ARC review ~

Sports photographer Harper moves to Orchid Beach to get a new start after her bad relationship ends. Professional hockey player Nico is living his best life and not looking for anything serious. After the strangers collide in a bar it becomes a forced proximity/workplace/forbidden romance where the two fall hard for each other but need to keep their relationship a secret. They have a cat and mouse type back and forth with their emotions. Nico’s friend Wes provided him some clarity and wise words throughout. The only thing I didn’t like is that the book kind of abruptly ended before the epilogue (which also could have been better and had more closure.). This book is dual POV and there are some spicy scenes, but not too much. A nice, sports romance that is an easy read.

Thanks Cali for the ARC! Looking forward to the next book as the teaser at the end of this book sounded so good!!

2/5 - The first 100 pages had me excited I’d found a cute little romance, and for some people I’m sure they did but they just lost me. The added new friend at the end? Obviously the next in the series or one in the series but awfully introduced. Wes was already right there with a storyline so it felt so randomly added.
