2.5 stars.

+Dragons. Dragons are cool.
+Action. There is some Dragon action scenes.

-Look, I'm not saying the climatic scene towards the end is a rip off GOT but that's exactly what I'm saying.
-The build up of a horribly boring half-baked romance.
-The linear plot-line fell a little a flat.

My sister actually got this book for me, and honestly I probably wouldn’t have picked it up otherwise, but I was pleasantly surprised by it. The book was a little slow at the beginning, and honestly didn’t reveal much about the characters. It only began to get exciting during the middle of The Race.

I liked how Emilia was revealed to be a chaotic, but I feel it could have been better. I’m not talking about the part where she was alone and demonstrated her power, but rather when she told Lucien. Just an opinion.

The ending was, dare I say it, riveting. I feel so sophisticated using that word. But anyways, it seemed comparable to the ending of Game of Thrones? Like the author wanted a book with dragons and different houses and a throne they all want? And in the end of GoT it wasn’t even someone they expected. Like in this book, but here it was four of them. The ending seemed similar because Hyperia, who seemed like Dany, went on a rampage of burning the city after she seemingly “won” the throne. And then *poof* she’s gone.

It was pretty good, but was not worth 5 stars.

Ehhh... It took me awhile to read this. The 5 different point of views/stories, made it a little rough for me. There really wasn't much of a pool either until towards the end. I would say about 60% of the book was me just saying "Need to get through it". I would say there was maybe only a handle of times where I laughed but for the most part I was just mehhhh (if that can be considered a feeling). Hopefully there will be more to the next book

Book has a cool idea, but the writing is very dull.

It was fine. I am glad the ending more or less worked out how it did, but I wasn't... I'm not sure I'd read a sequel. It's been a bit since I finished it, so my thoughts aren't clear.

I enjoyed the concepts and the writing, but there was something about it that just left me a little cold by the end and I'm honestly not sure what that all was. Either way, I would say it might be worth a read if you enjoy dragons and a sort of hunger games esque competition type setting.

I really enjoyed this book!!! There were definitely times where the writing felt off and I think that there were points where the plot should’ve been extended, BUT, the characters were brilliantly created and there were DRAGONS(!!!!) so I think I’m definitely excited for the sequel!!

I loved this book! The multiple point of views kept the story moving at a wonderful pace. I loved the quests, magic and dragons (and yes, actual dragons). The bit of mystery throughout the plot was written and resolved in a great manner. I also love a book that ends with a cliffhanger. I can’t wait to read the second book!

The premise sounded interesting so I checked out the book from my library, despite not knowing anything about it. Honestly, it’s pretty terrible. I think I get what the author was trying to do but it really missed the mark for me.

There’s little to no character growth at all and their characterization is incredibly shallow. You can define each of them completely with about two words. Additionally, the plot makes zero sense.
None of them are suitable to be a ruler. Especially not Vespir or Ajax. I’m sorry but an illiterate teenager can’t be a Empress, no matter how nice of a person she is. And Ajax is an immature pos who learns not one lesson throughout the book and then is rewarded with the position anyway. Honestly, Emmelia has enough to worry about with controlling her magic that she shouldn’t be here either, even if she’s knowledgeable. It just feels like such a cop out of an ending.
