The tittle of this WWII family history/nonfiction book piqued my interest because the "family secrets" part of the title. Although reconciling his Nazi grandfather's role during the war was an interesting journey to go on with him, it is not the drama readers get from reading the latest Ruth Ware or Lisa Jewell. Organizing this quest in reverse chronological order provides readers with a full picture of Grandpa Paul and not a half-baked one if Bilger would have narrowed it to just WWII years Grandpa Paul. His voice made the audio drag at times.

This is a well-written examination of family, history, and The vagaries of Nazi Germany. I highly recommend it for fans of history and family.
