I listened to the audio and missed out on a few details while doing chores, etc., but it was quick paced, and the voice of the main character was strong though filled with profanity. Very focused on feminism and justice well blended with science and family issues. I enjoyed this dystopian novel.

Meh. The sleeve of this book got me! I was so intrigued by the story line...and then it just fell short. There were so many plot lines that could have been better developed...and towards the end things just all of a sudden happened without any clear leading. Maybe these were supposed to be twists, but they didn’t land. Huge disappointment.

Excellent idea and thoroughly harrowing.
I think at times the actual plot as opposed to the setting/scenario was a bit weak and didn't stand up to the amount of impact that setting was making. I liked the characters but don't feel we went deep enough into their stories and relationships and so some of their behaviour and choices felt artificial and shallow at times. The potential was there but it wasn't used well enough.
A very much wonder how people who are not AFAB or female experience this book. In some ways the setting was less shocking and simply harrowing because actually it's all to easy for women and AFAB people to imagine that scenario occurring and to share many of the emotions of the main characters. in some ways that meant it lost impact because well, if we haven't imagined that exact scenario the fear, frustration and anger of being silenced as a woman, AFAB person (or queer person) are a reality and not a chilling possibility.

That being said it was a compelling read. I read it in less than a week which is speedy for me. I wanted to know the outcome. I did root for the protagonists. You should read it. Don't expect a literary masterpiece but do expect an emotional disquieting experience.

Gets the details of everyday life right and these are probably the most chilling parts. The last act in a non-house setting is all over the place and quite anti-climactic like the writer ran out of ideas. X:

Great start, wimped out on the ending, like she couldn't wait to finish it and go on to something else. Worth the read though. Very realistic, very scary!

Mulheres reprimidas? Check
Also check
