Kith & Kin was fine as any standard fantasy book goes but I did expect more from the all night Critical Role. The story lacks a lot of the humor and DND shenanigans you would expect which was a let down.

There wasn't a lot that kept me reading or wanting to read. There were a few great scenes and the author does a good job but mostly it just drags. The characterization is fine and I had no qualms with that, I was just bored most of the time I'm afraid. Which was a bummer

Overall, I liked this book. I have not seen all of campaign 1, so I feel like I have missed some insight other people may have about these characters, but I don’t think that takes away from this book’s story. The author did an overall good job at telling the story, and the chapters flowed nicely between flashbacks and present. However, I don’t know if it’s because of my brain or not, but I felt like the story beats weren’t always completely written. It’s like the author left out words that should have been said or something. Idk though, it could have just been me.

LOVED this inside look at Vex and Vax. I definitely feel like I can understand their early campaign decisions better now, and bonus points for finding out exactly how Vax came to have Simon.

I’m a little bit bummed by this book. I’m a big fan of Critical Role and this genre in general, but this one didn’t hit the mark for me. I listened to the audiobook, and Robbie Daymond’s voice was a great comfort, at least!
I felt the heroes of our stories suffered quite badly from Main Character syndrome. The book tried really hard to convince me of how cool and skilled the main characters are, but at the same time, they’re outcasts and rejects, but still SO COOL. It just came across as really edgy to me, and I love Vex and Vax.
My favorite parts were the flashbacks to their childhood. It’s what I was hoping the whole book would be. I loved exploring who they were before trauma, and their transition through that. Overall it wasn’t terrible, just slow and a bit predictable. Still worth a read if you’re a big fan though.
