Why didn’t I pick up this series earlier?

AHHHHH This had me REELING. The love arc? ugh. perfect. The mystery?? There was a hot second where I actually thought Scarlett might be Princess Selene. It's a teeny bit disorienting with the switch in character POVs, but its a symptom of YA and Audiobooks tbh. Not at all the issue of the book itself.
There was a point where I thought Wolf died and needed to pause it to process it. God. Amazing writing. Lovely story. Still on the high tbh.

I'm loving these fairy tale retellings. First Cinderella, then red riding hood, and mixing the characters together in a Sci-Fi/fantasy world. There is romance and action. This is classified as YA but seems it can be read and enjoyed even slightly younger, definitely at the younger edge. Much of the book is again predictable, not only because the fairy tale. I'm interested to see where else Cinder, and now Scarlets story goes and who else is picked up and intertwined along the way.

So this book switches perspectives which isn't my favorite. I could not care less about Kai so all of his chapters were boring. But the other characters' chapters were interesting and the ones that annoyed me at the beginning ended up being enjoyable at the end. The best part of this book is the world building. It's amazing how much sci-fi Meyer puts into the stories while still adhering to a vague storytale retelling. It was an enjoyable book, what can I say.

Absolutely loved this read! A phenomenal addition to the original story and fantastic reinvention of a known story! Marissa Meyers has built an incredible world that keeps getting better page after page.

Ok, ok, ok, ok. I enjoyed this book SO much. I literally read it in one sitting, with just the smallest of pauses to get something to eat, and then coming back so I can keep on reading.

Story-wise, this was a much better book - no dead spots, no dragging narrative. We get to see what's going on from various point of views and from different places all around the world, so it's so much easier and funnier to follow the immense plot of this whole series. It also makes a lot more sense and allows us to see some nice character development and I personally prefer it to the first volume's writing.

I also really liked the main romance in this volume a lot, and I have a special place in my heart for strong, stubborn Scarlet and how much I admire her. She is strong and stubborn, but she's also scared and wants the protection of those she cares about, and she's a perfect mix of wonderful things and traits. She's also a kickass pilot. Wolf is also a fave, I especially liked him in the first part, and while their relationship isn't my usual type, it still evolved nicely and ???

To be honest, I just want more Thorne because we is an absolute fave and I feel like next volume is going to be really loved by me, simply because I will enjoy the characters so much?? Yeah, super excited for a series I didn't even want to read a year ago. Shame on me, I guess.

I just want to start Cress as soon as possible, I need more feels. This the season to be jolly and all that jazz.

I can't really say these books are good, but they are very entertaining. I liked Scarlet better than Cinder not necessarily for any plot or character reasons, but because there was much less jumbled generic Asian window dressing to bother me. The male characters in Scarlet are also much more interesting than Kai, even if I didn't necessarily like them, and I enjoyed Cinder and Thorne's dynamic. I disliked the Scarlet/Wolf relationship greatly, as it played into my least favorite romantic tropes: enemies to lovers/love at first sight (or like, at least kissing in the first 24 hours and professing that someone is the "only one" in the first 48).
