3.75 stars. This was good! Treasured is a novella in the Masters and Mercenaries series and is Tessa and David's (Sean Taggart's stepson/Grace's son/Kyle's brother) book. David is a college professor who is writing a book about an eccentric millionaire in South America who died and left a treasure hidden in the South American jungle. Tessa works for McKay Taggart as a bodyguard. She meets David by chance, not knowing who each other are really, at the bar at Top. They have a connection, talk for hours and share a kiss, making plans for a date later. But Tessa finds out who he is and doesn't want to get involved with someone related to the Taggarts and her work. So she ghosts him. But when there are threats to David's safety on his research trip to South America, Tessa is assigned as his bodyguard. The two both have some baggage from family situations and past relationships, but they manage to work things out between them, fall in love and stick together through a dangerous situation.

Treasured was a good read. It is a novella, but it felt plenty long enough to have a detailed romance. I really liked the hot professor, David, and the fact that Tessa could hold her own as a bodyguard, but was willing to be vulnerable and submit to him in the bedroom. They were a great match. I also liked the tropical location and treasure hunt aspect. This was an entertaining, well written story and an easy read. Overall, I enjoyed Treasured and I look forward to more from Ms. Blake and one of my favorite series!

Lexi Blake is a comfort read for me, she's always putting out the steamy hits and this short cute tale definitely hit the spot. It can be read as a standalone but for a seasoned Lexi reader you will spot characters for 3 of her series 3.5⭐

Treasured was a 4.5 Star read for me.

Treasured is #22.5 in the Masters and Mercenaries Series. This is David Hawthorne and Tessa “Tess” Santiago’s story. David is a professor at a college in Dallas. David’s stepfather is Sean Taggert and Tess works for McKay-Taggert Security Agency. Tess is set to be David’s security to a foreign country.

Of course their sexual chemistry is off the charts! They are set to just go and have sex to get it out of their systems. But what it proves to them is they have real sexual chemistry attracting them to each other.

I loved reading this Novella. What I love is that each of these books in the 1001 Dark Nights is meant to be an introduction to the author. You aren't going to get a cliffhanger but a complete story.

I didn’t need the introduction because I love this author's books. And I try to read everything I can. The Master’s and Mercenaries happens to be one of my favorite genre’s that she writes. I think that Lexi Blake could write any genre and I would love it. Treasured was a 4.5 Star read for me.

I really love to read Ms. Blake's Masters and Mercinaries series! We get David's story this time around. Who is Tessa and how does David know or meet her? Who is David? What does he do for a living? Who are his parents? Where is Kyle supposed to go with David when he gets himself hurt? How does he get hurt? Oh, that one had me laughing like a loon! What happens when Tessa gets pulled in to take Kyle's place? Who is Luis? What does Tessa think about Luis and Emilo's 'butler'? Why does Tessa hide her Spanish skills? What happens after dinner? Who is Mateo? I am not sure what to make of Tessa's strange feelings until suddenly things make sense! I did NOT expect what happened in the last 20% of the book. Wow. Just wow.

I never get enough of returning to Lexi's M&M world and now my excitement levels are extra high that I'm getting to delve into the love lives of the children of some of my favorite characters.

David Hawthorne is the stepson of Sean Taggart and the fact that I'm not only getting Sean's advice as a father, but getting a double dose of Ian as David's uncle and Tessa's employer it was like having all the holidays bundled together all at once. Over the moon didn't even begin to describe my happiness levels.

Tessa Santiago and David Hawthorne are both rich with history within the Taggart-McKay world. Tessa was engaged to Michael Malone, the wealthy oil billionaire, and David Hawthorne is Sean Taggart's step-son. Both Michael and Sean are prominent men, which makes this story so much sweeter.

Tessa had already broken an engagement to a man who ran in the elite circle of an elite world. While the break up was amblicle between Michael and Tessa and they have remained friends, she refuses to put herself back in the position where money and social status is everything and the relationship comes second. She hated the pressure of always being "on" and living in the spotlight.

When she meets David there is an instant connection, but she doesn't connect him with the Taggart family, he has a different last name after all, but when she discovers who he actually is, she ghosts his advances. She has no desire to live in the spotlight again, but she also can't stop thinking about him.

David has never really felt that he fit in with his family, his brother Kyle is more of a Taggart and speaks his step-fathers language than he does. David is a professor and currently working on writing a biography for his tenure when Tessa is assigned as his bodyguard. It wouldn't normally be a problem, but she'd rejected his advances once and he doesn't need the rejection again, especially when he has work to do.

These two blaze with chemistry and could set the jungle on fire, but there is a mystery to solve. Could David solve the puzzles that lead to a treasure and also solve the mystery of the woman assigned to him before it's time to leave the island?

For fans of this series, there are several dropped hints to Lexi's upcoming books without giving too much away, but personally each one made me giddy. I love the 1001 Dark Night novellas for this very reason. The other joy of reading these short novellas is because new readers get a taste of an author's writing, we get introduced to new characters and while it may be part of a series, you don't necessarily need to be fully versed in the world, but just one small taste and you will want to read them all.

Lexi Blake does it once again.

Treasured finds us with our sexy nerd alert radar going off at full force. David Hawthorne is a hot professor who has a bad ass for a step father and a few kinky secrets. And we also have Tessa Santiago. A woman who excels at her job at McKay-Taggart but her life is not so together having recently broken off an engagement. A chance meeting has sparks flying but as soon as Tessa realizes who this handsome hottie is she’s gone like the wind.  Fate steps in and gives these two a big push when Tessa is assigned to be David’s bodyguard for a trip to a private island.

Oh my God the chemistry between these two. Tessa has some alpha tendencies that I absolutely adored in her. I love how she got protective of her professor.  David’s laid-back way of being a Dom was quite a surprise. With a Mystery at hand and chemistry so hot it could set the world on fire. I love how they interact with each other and it was only a matter of time until fate would win and David and Tessa saw what they needed to in each other.

Lexi Blake never fails to give her readers a story they can get lost in and fall in love with the characters. For a long time reader she gives a few little treats of upcoming possibilities in future stories and there’s nothing like getting to spend time with McKay-Taggert crew.

I adored David and Tessa's story. She didn't expect him to be so dominant, but he really was. I've been intrigued by David and his brother since reading about them in the first M&M book, so I was incredibly excited to be getting his story. This book had all the elements that readers have come to love from Lexi Blake's M&M series, but it still has a unique storyline. I loved reading about David in his element and Tessa's support of him. This was a fantastic story and the family dynamics were perfect. I definitely recommend reading it.

Overall Grade: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Lexi Blake’s Treasured is more of her fantastic Masters and Mercenaries series. This novella is a quick read filled with her brand of romantic suspense mixed with a little D/s steam. This is David Hawthorne and Tessa’s story. As we’ve found in other stories in the series, Tessa was slated to marry Michael Malone of Malone Oil. However, their engagement fell apart when Tessa and Michael realized they were better as friends than lovers. As Tessa enters Treasured, she’s carrying the weight of guilt associated with calling off the relationship with Michael. As such, she has a huge wall built up emotionally.

David Hawthorne, the stepson of Sean Taggart, is a prolific professor who is studying an Argentinian mogul. Friends with his son, he’s heading out on his Spring Break to visit the island of this man as a way to write a biography about him. Unfortunately, he is related to a Taggart, so his family wants him protected. David and Tessa meet earlier in the story and feel deeply attracted to each other; however, Tessa realizes David’s background and believes it will be the same type of relationship as the one with Michael. She ends up ghosting him until she becomes assigned to be his bodyguard for his trip. Reticent yet required, Tessa and David journey to the island of his friend’s father only to be met eventually with danger. Will Tessa drop her walls? Will David make it out of the danger on the island?

I think it’s a requirement of a Lexi Blake book to make you work for her couples’ happy endings. Everything you love about this series is here: a keen attraction between her hero and heroine, a hero who falls fairly quickly for the heroine, a heroine who is reticent to develop a relationship with the hero but she can’t deny her attraction to him, a suspenseful story that keeps you turning the pages, and a D/s relationship between the hero and heroine that spices up the suspense of this story? There is a reason that Big Tag reminds his operatives about protection because, over and over again, Lexi Blake’s Masters and Mercenaries characters’ attractions cannot be denied. Tessa and David are more of this.

I love the complex characterization of David in this book. He struggles with his position in his family. He’s a true academic who gets lost in his work, and he’s the opposite of his persona in the bedroom. If there is one thing I love the most about Blake’s development of him is his willingness to accept Tessa as she is. This man is tenacious, and it’s wrapped in a professorial package. He sees Tessa in a way that Michael would have never been able to see her, and therefore, they are fated for each other.

The frustration of Treasured is the complications that Tessa makes for the two of them. I think Blake let Tessa sit too long in her reticence. That being said, she is a strong, independent, willful woman which is important in any story.

Overall, Treasured is the type of story you expect of Lexi Blake. It’s a quick read that has a fulfilling happily ever after for her David and Tessa.

She was the beauty and the brawn, and he was the professor who got to study her.

Knowing that we were getting the stories of some of the "younger" crew from the Masters & Mercenaries world, I was intrigued to read David and Kyle's books... these are the sons of Grace and step-sons of Sean and while they don't feature a lot in the original books, I knew they'd be perfect to read to give us the first insight to being a child in the M&M world. After seeing glimpses of Kyle in Submission Impossible, Treasured - with Kyle's brother David as our hero - was perfect. David isn't your typical M&M hero... he is a history professor who doesn't (at first) seem to have a lot in common with the athletic, army/navy men we are used to. But don't be alarmed... David brings the Dom and the kink in ALL THE WAYS!! Add in Tessa - who we only know was once engaged to Michael Malone and isn't looking for love - who is all sorts of bada** in the way that a female bodyguard can be and this book was AMAZING. My only complaint ... it was too short!! I desperately need more!!

I hesitated to read this book, as I have been plowing through Lexi Blake back catalog. While most in this series are about bodyguards, I thought the professor would be boring? I found that I loved this story in this novella. The chemistry between the characters was sizzling. Before I knew it, the story was over.
