I can't imagine a kid reading this on her own, but it'd be a lovely class read aloud. Totally got misty eyed at the end.

This caught me by surprise when I read it to a class of second graders on my last day as their long-term sub....I was not expecting to have to hold back tears.

Despite the first person child narrator, the tone of the book is very nostalgic, which makes sense when readers reach the end of the book and see the full-sized narrator with a classroom of her own. Ultimately more end-of-the-school-year-present for educators than picturebook.

Alright, folks. Let's get real. If you're a teacher, you've had one (if not several, you lucky ducky!) of those students who...oh, what's the politically correct term? Exhaust you. You love them, but also it seems they are trying to exstinguish your perkiness with whatever character trait of theirs that is most inherently disposed to chafe your teaching sensibilities. And of course, they have perfect attendance.
But going back to that earlier clause: You do love them. They make you dig deep, and become better. They are the kids whose growth over a school year, and even beyond, means the world to you. It is from these kids that a 'thank you' in any form touches your heart deeply.
It is for this reason that A Letter to My Teacher resonates with me. The student penning a letter to her second grade teacher admits her exuberance, her misplaced outburts, her unrestrained curiosity--but also recognizes how those traits were not seen as faults to her teacher. Instead, her teacher found ways to encourage and enrich the student's learning in a way that spoke to her.
In lovely, watercolor-like illustrations, this book is a love letter to teachers as much as a voice for students. Every child is this student because every child you teach is unique and extraordinary, requiring from you a new brand of patience and kindness. And hopefully, we are all the teachers these students need us to be.

The text is perfectly acceptable, but the magic here is in the images. So, beautifully drawn and then paired with perfect coloration.

عنوان انگلیسیِ این کتاب «نامه‌ای به معلمم» هست و من هنوز در شگفتم و نمی‌دانم چرا مترجم‌های ایرانی کلا خوششان می‌آید با عناوین بازی کنند گویی اگر نکنند لقبِ مترجم بد به آنها تعلق می‌گیرد !

از نظرِ من محتوای این کتاب خیلی شیرین بود و من رو برد به دوران کودکی، همه‌ی ما جز استثناها کلی شیطنت کردیم در این دوران اما این معلم‌ها بودند که صبور بودند و با عشق کنار ما ایستادند و مشغولِ آموزش و تربیتِ ما شدند، من از این تریبون استفاده می‌کنم و می‌گویم آقای «عزیزِ رضایی‌دوست» معلمِ کلاسِ اول من در سال ۱۳۷۴ اگر روزی این پیامم را خواندی بدان اگر روزی تو را ببینم دستت را خواهم بوسید حتی همان دستی که روزی بخاطر اینکه یک قورباغه داخل کیفت انداختم و آدامس به پشتِ کتت چسبانده بودم من را روی یک لنگ پا گوشه‌ی کلاس سرپا نگه داشتی و با خط‌کش به کف دستم زدی، از آن زمان سال‌ها گذشته اما دوستت دارم و هرجا هستی برایت بهترین‌ها را آرزو می‌کنم.

This book made me all weepy. It's the story of an exasperating grade two student and how her teacher changed the trajectory of her life.
