The biggest problem I had with this book was the dialogue, the main character being particularly cringe-worthy. The most interesting characters always ended up dying, and the romance aspect felt completely unnecessary.

I should have known from the first scene in the airport that the main character was going to drive me crazy.

If I had to read “blessedly” or hear something compared to the Holocaust one more time I was going to stop reading. I really wanted an explanation so I soldiered on, and did not get that payoff. Just left with more questions, which can be fine but after all that I felt like a little more of an ending was deserved.

I did enjoy aspects of this book, and it felt particularly fun to read during a snow storm! I found the action sequences held my interest, I liked the second main character quite a bit - outside of the romance aspect with the main character. The descriptive writing made it easy to picture everything as it happened like I was watching a movie. I was still in the end unimpressed with the character development and the flat ending. I wouldn’t let that deter me from reading another book by this author though as I have heard good things about his other work. This one however didn’t live up the the hype, so I will adjust my expectations going into the next one.

This book is so good. Very well written. The story line is great, and the ending was spot on. Coming from the Midwest, and already somebody not overly fond of large amounts of snow, I will now like it even less. And probably look at it a little differently. This is my first Malfi read, and I will now be on the hunt for the rest of his works!!
