And, well the journey is now complete. I think I realized that with both the films and the novels, I really love Fellowship the most by not too thin a margin. Return of the King is great, but I found myself way more enamored by the narrative of Sam and Frodo’s experience compared to everything else. That storyline is written so darkly and beautifully, and stands out as my favorite part of this book.

I managed to work through the appendices of this book, and there’s definitely some cool stuff there. It doesn’t make me want to read The Silmarillion, but I enjoyed it more than I expected to. Overall, this has been a wonderful journey and one I would revisit multiple times.
