that was weird asf.

I felt so detached all along, so I didn’t feel any depth of emotions whatsoever. However, I appreciated the writing style, it was quiet and peaceful. I especially liked the way Winman describes the tiniest details (sometimes it’s too much though), things we experience on a daily basis but rarely see written down.

It was a good enough book. Idk if I’d recommend it seeing as I enjoyed it but didn’t love it.

Looking for a short book to squeeze in before the end of the year? Might I suggest this little gem?

TIN MAN follows childhood best friends Ellis and Michael and explores the paths in life not taken. With themes of navigating loss and the blessings of friendship, this is a small book that packs a big emotional punch. The prose was sparse but poetic and I have an affinity for authors who can say so much with less.

Sarah Winman is the author of the 2022 release, STILL LIFE, which I unfortunately missed this year. This small but mighty book has me reconsidering passing STILL LIFE up (100% because of the length).

Thank you to WHITNEY for sending this book my way!

Picked up ‘Tin Man’ after hearing rave reviews from some others at a book club! At first, I was hooked into it from my own experiences of Oxford being fond and familiar - the recollections of places and streets, albeit not in a similar time frame. However, I did find it challenging to get hooked into the plot and found the lack of speech punctuation distracting and disengaging. Whilst of course these factors won’t be the case for everyone, I struggled through the mid section of the book but this swiftly changed pace when the pages from Michael’s perspective came along. A touching novel, of a not so straightforward love story.

A fantastic book full of love, happiness, loss, and heartbreak.

Tin Man takes you on a non-linear journey through the relationships of two characters. The story tackles the harsh realities and beauty of loving someone whether that is a family member, friend, lover, or spouse. This book will take you through so many emotions in such few pages. It’s able to display emotional depth and complexity in less pages than most books are able to start a story. From page one I felt invested in these characters and the amazing story they had to tell.

Highly recommend.
emotional reflective sad

Don't know what to say about this except that I loved it. I think it's best read in one go - which is easy cause it's really short.
