The story follows two young boys through their life, from young teenagers discovering first love with each other to experiencing the many varied difficulties of life, and later tragedy.
I like the title's play on word; Ellis works at a car plant, but it's also in reference to his lack of feelings, depression has caused him to 'shutdown' in a way, and like the Tin Man in Wizard of Oz he too is in search of a heart again. I really enjoyed the story's link to Van Gogh's "Sunflowers" and his life.
