On the second read this was not as good as I remembered. I think, especially in Ellis’s pov, the characters needed more development. The novel felt a bit emotionally cheap but I do really enjoy the storyline and how Michael views his relationship with Ellis.

I read this in a day, almost in one sitting. This is my second entirely prosaic novel in two days, and I just say, the style is really growing on me. 

I would recommend this book to anyone who prefers character-driven novels, because this is basically just that, which I absolutely love.

I cried throughout most of Michael's story and the end... this story is going to stay with me for a very long time.

I might be the minority with this book and how I felt the characters needed more of a highlight. For me character development makes a novel far more enjoyable. Annie was one character that deserved more than a few pages written about her. I wanted to know more about her even though she was a side character.
What was with the build up of the love story to have it all come crashing down? I didn't understand Ellis's motivation during that time and was somewhat confused. The scenery, painting and the women of the novel were the highlights for me. This book is a quick read with family dynamics and somewhat of a love story. Enjoy!
