Echoes of Memory by Sara Driscoll

This one took me back to patients I cared for when once a nurse working in neurosurgical intensive care and later in a skilled nursing facility for mentally alert neurologically impaired patients…loved reading about someone with the strength to pursue a better life than some in my care managed to have.

What I liked:
* Quinn Flemming: survivor, dealing with TBI and residual amnesia, witness to a murder, brilliant coping skills, mad art skills, florist, driven, intriguing character that I really liked
* Detective Nura Reyes: dedicated, capable, intelligent, protective, methodical, team player, believed in and was there for Quinn, someone I would like on my side
* Will Dawsey: medical professional, certified brain injury specialist, runs support groups for TBI survivors, supportive, kind, intelligent, sharing, possible love interest for Quinn
* Some of the supporting characters: Detective Felip Cerveló, Jacinta, and Vivian
* The police procedural aspects of the story
* Quinn’s artistic abilities and how they played into providing clues
* That I was drawn in, felt part of the story, and cared about the outcome
* The plot, pacing, setting, and writing
* The new information I learned about traumatic brain injuries and thinking about what goes into living with them
* That all the threads were tied up by the end of the story
* Wondering what will happen in the future

What I didn’t like:
* Who and what I was meant not to like
* The evil some are willing to do and the impact it has on others

Did I like this book? Yes
Would I read more by this author? Definitely

Thank you to NetGalley and Kensington Books for the ARC – This is my honest review.

Quinn was in an accident 3 months ago and can’t remember anything since then for more than about an hour. When she witnesses a murder, the detectives on the scene can’t find evidence and they don’t believe her.

This was a really interesting read, mostly because I really liked Quinn and I liked seeing the strategies she used for reminding herself of events, even if she didn’t actually remember them.

Beaten to with in an inch of her life, Quinn has far to go to recuperate. The mind is a complex unpredictable thing. She has to write everything down and re-read to know to do daily things. Her job at a florist job, where she is managing, brings her front and center to a murder. Will the police manage to solve this murder with out a body? Who removed the body? As Quinn works hard to improve her memory to solve the murder, she inadvertently solves the attack that left her on deaths door. Ms. Driscoll has woven a wonderful murder mystery where it is impossible to figure who did what and why. A definite page turner that kept me awake for two nights. Do not miss this gripping book!

I tried a few times with this book. I liked the MC and setup but couldn’t stand to be around the male characters. They couldn’t help but grand stand and blabber on or “mansplain” there are enough of these guys already I don’t need more.

Thanks netgalley

I was really excited for this one because I heard great things. But it was not it for me. I honestly think if I would have read the book on my kindle instead of doing to the audiobook, I would have liked it more. The narrator was great for the main character, Quinn’s voice, but all other voices were the exact same. They all sounded like “frat bros”, even the female characters. The dialogue was awkward and it felt like there was tons of explaining that was unnecessary. Again, the dialogue could have to do with how it was done via audio and I would have liked it more with physically reading it.

Sara Driscoll has an engrossing thriller in Echoes of Memory, her new stand alone novel. Her books are a treat that I look forward to.

Quinn Fleming was beaten so badly that her brain sustained a traumatic injury, resulting in the need to write down everything she might need to remember. This predicament frustrates her when Quinn sees a murder after closing the shop for the night. Can the police trust this witness and her observations transcribed in her notebook?

I loved the unusual story line, the very interesting medical information on Quinn's brain issues, and the suspenseful tension of the plot. An excellent mystery -- just as I have come to expect from this author.

Thank you for sending an advanced e-book copy for me to read and review. All opinions and thoughts are my own.

3.5⭐️ A very interesting story idea/concept. This was my first giveaway win on Goodreads and I finally got to it. The beginning started off great and the last 1/3 was great, but the build up was kinda slow for me. There was also a little too much medical/technical talk at times that I know were there to explain the situation but were just kinda boring for me. Overall good story!

Quinn is sure she has witnessed a murder - but after investigation and finding nothing, the police don't believe her because she suffers from a condition called Post Traumatic Amnesia. She keeps a notebook where she draws the events she wants - or needs to remember, and she is increasingly remembering more details of the murder. Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC/audiobook!
