This installment was significantly shorter than all of the others in this series so far. We get to know Micah a lot more and I was interested to hear more of his backstory and get to understand him more. This felt almost like a little "sidequest" and I really enjoyed it.

I'm surprised I rated this so low the first time! I really enjoyed the reread. I think it added a lot to the characters and a break where Anita had to interact solely with Micah was really needed to give his character time to shine. I liked the animator plot and was really worried about the inciting incident with Larry's wife and baby. Things felt balanced and flowed well and it was nice to have such a compact story after the larger scale more sprawling narratives of the last few books.

If I were rerating the books I had already rated I probable would rate this highly against some of my old faves. Perhaps my tastes have changed.
