There is an amazing story buried under all that fluff and pointless ambiguity.

Muy bueno, tiene algunos detalles como los cambios bruscos de personaje en la narrativa y que al final una parte importante del misterio se resuelve muy fácil, pero en general muy entretenido.

This book was confusing as hell. I like sci-fi, but I also like characters, and I felt like everything about this story revolved around being told things. All the characters are pretty bland, in fact I really couldn't tell most of them apart. The story was sort of interesting once I managed to wade through all the stuff to get there. But by that time, I was just so bogged down with everything else that I almost couldn't care anymore. Its an interesting story, but not one that I think I'll be continuing.

Maybe I'm just not smart enough for this much heavy sci-fi. And I'm confused about why this keeps getting called a space opera. I don't even think this is space opera, this is hard sci-fi.

3.5 rounded up!

Some really interesting ideas and concepts but as a sci-fi noob was just sometimes overwhelming to my poor brain!

Writing: competent. I listened to it. The narrator was adequate, but there was no way to tell when sections changed and you were in someone else’s story. That was frustrating.
Plot/characters: the first half was almost agonizingly slow. I’m all for world-building, but for the love ….get a move on. I considered stopping because nothing happened forever. But it finally picked up the pace and I wanted to know how it ended. The characters were interesting, but I did want more backstory on the ultra crew.
Profundity: I don’t see myself pondering much from this book though you could probably argue that we can walk away from the book needing to have discussions about what makes us human and the love of war…and probably the nature of reality, but I will not feel compelled to do that.
