I liked the book but it was 150 pages to long.

Not gonna bother with the next however, just doesn't seem worth the excess pages you read.

In theory, I should have loved this book, but I wasn't able to connect with any of the characters, I didn't care about any of them and that ended up affecting my interest on the story. The book deals with very intriguing concepts but I didn’t enjoy it as much as I was hoping to. Since my first Alastair Reynolds was a five stars read, I will just try again with a different one and hope it goes better.

4.75. Awesome book. It is completely mind-bending. Hard to explain, but it has a similar feel to the movie Intestellar. If you like sci-fi at all, read this book.

Normally I like Sci Fi, but don't like Fantasy. This book started out droll and Fantasy like. I gave myself til page 100, and found by page 20 I liked it enough to know I'd keep going. As I read the pace improved and the flow improved. The timeline jumping in the book worked better than I thought it would and the outlandish technology started to feel like it could work, as the story moved forward. I do find it funny that for a sci fi book where implants allow people to communicate without using their mouths/voices, there is no faster than light speed travel.

Main reason I didn't give it a four star is that while I liked the book, it didn't make me want to read more of the series. I didn't get invested in the "universe" that this book begins. I'd like an option to give a half star.
