Read the audio version of this book.

I didn’t like this one as much as the first for various reasons: Oswald being a way bigger asshole than I expected him to be; the boring plot; hearing about the king and queen, etc. It really seemed like a filler book to give details on future MCs, instead of focusing on the two in this one. I hope Roland, who is also a major asshole, grows a bit sooner than Oswald in the next one.

I don't know that I have alot to say about this book. Which isn't really a bad thing tbh. I did like the hero Oswald more than Mason from book 1. He had more personality and depth to him. But I liked the heroine Linnet more in book one than Fenella in this one. Fenella was altogether a little too meek and sometimes pathetic tbh. Considering the length of the book we do get some actual growth of character for her which I appreciated and I did like her at times but it was never a staying sort of like. Most of the time I tolerated her. Though Oswald has his moments too so

Sadly I didn't enjoy this as much as the other books I've read by the same author. There wasn't a lot of plot, it sort of felt like it was mopping up from book 1 (the main characters appear in this book, kids in tow) and setting up for future books, but not much story of its own.
I found the male lead unpleasant, he was very rude and mean to his wife throughout and I just didn't warm to him. I also didn't like how he tried to erase 8 years of her life, and that was passed off as romantic and possessive.
Main female lead was fine but a bit bland, I couldn't tell you a lot about her personally apart from being worried about what her husband will think about things (but not asking him). The ending felt a bit rushed but I assume we will catch up with them more in the next books, which I am looking forward to.

This dragged a bit for an Alice Coldbreath novel. I just can't believe Fen was that stupid that many times. Like girl you have common sense
