I was honestly so rattled by this book. A friend had mentioned that this one was good to read because I’d thoroughly enjoyed ‘Disorientation’ by Elaine Hseih Chou.

I was not expecting this depth of humanness, right down to all the upsetting content (content warnings below). But I loved Jayne for all her fucked up energy and for finally owning it, and I loved June for her fierceness, especially at the end.
Imagine getting fired because you stole a Supreme ashtray 😂

I’m going to be thinking about this book for a while now. 4 out of 5 stars, thank you ✨

I loved this book. Choi takes such care in writing about the very sensitive topics covered in this book, even including a content warning at the beginning.

The characters felt so real and multidimensional. I feel like they’ll stick with me for a long time.

I liked this more than Emergency Contact, but I think this is the last book I'll read from this author. Her writing is just not for me. Super slow until the ending and her characters are just never likeable for me. Jayne is frustrating on so many levels. My relationship with my older sisters is clearly different but I still appreciate that the book was about a sister dynamic that isn't sunshine and rainbows.

This book absolutely wrecked me. The sister dynamic, Jayne’s insecurities, all of it just hit so close to home it kind of hurt. The writing is absolutely gorgeous and Choi knows how to discuss intense subject matter without it feeling unnecessarily provocative or disrespectful. I highly recommend if you want something that makes you feel something but be ready to cry.

“i’ve never felt so known. so fucking spied on.” c’est ce que j’ai ressenti en lisant ce livre, il était juste incroyablement beau, triste et rempli d’espoir 💗
