Crime fiction in not usually something I read. But this book attracted me first of all with it's cover. I am like that, give me a good cover and i will give a book at least a try. To have a female Detective Inspector is interesting, normally from what I notice it is always men. So, that was a nice touch. I do not know if there will be continuations, but if this is a series, it looks like it can be a good read, with developed characters and good in depth writing. It was enjoyable and even somewhat educational too!

A great book by a well-respected author, a new entry to the best crime novels published in the last two years. A plot brilliantly written and a story so promising and so mysterious. A sure read for everyone who is interested in crime fiction blended with some young adult themes, such as sexuality, feminism, and social relationships.

Amazing writing, plot,set up,characters!

But I feel, by the end of it, the author herself was muddled up about what exactly went there. Nevertheless, we got our killer, but then again, we dint get to see if Emily got her justice or not.

Hence, 4 stars instead of 5.

I've just finished this book, and I'm not totally sure how I feel about it. I enjoyed it, for the most part, but I did find parts of it implausible. Having been at university myself, be it many years ago, my experience was just so different to this book. I find it hard to believe that female university students in a good uni decide to post pornographic photos of themselves on the Internet in order to become popular. That just sounds too far fetched for me. But, perhaps in this day and age, such things are possible, i dont know. I wasnt sold on the idea though. Anyway, other than that, this was a good read, I enjoyed it, but I didn't love it.

The opening sentence sets the tone of chill and suspense for the whole book: 'The body was found in the icy coffin of the weir'.

A new DI has to investigate the death of a student at an elite college and uncovers the self-created seedy side of young, beautiful people. The pace is tight, with clues and dead ends all over the place. I cracked through it because the characters are portrayed vividly and you want to find out what happens to them.
