I picked this book up at my grandma's house because I was looking for something published the year I was born for a reading challenge. I have never read Sue Grafton and am not much of a mystery book reader in general but this was a fun read. The story was engaging and Kinsey is a fun heroine so I understand why this was a popular book series. I look forward to reading more at some point.

Just the relaxing read I needed. Very funny at times, a tiny bit boring at times in all its endless descriptiveness which I skim-read, but on the whole a very delicious read. I'd read this one probably when it came out (1990), not much later anyway, but that's long enough ago that I didn't remember anything. And it was interesting to me that while I can see more of what she does with the writing and the characters than I could then, I still enjoyed it. Not all books I once enjoyed can take a reread decades later.

Exactly what I needed after a sloppy end to February.

So I think I figured out the Template that Sue Grafton uses when she writes these stories. It starts out with Kinsey getting a “simple” assignment, which ends up being more than she bargained for, she waxes on about how competent and ballsy she is only two in aptly stumbling through each mystery to its conclusion. She also seems to get her ass handed to her multiple times in each book and is on the verge of a breakdown after each incident. This has pretty much happened in every book and this book was no exception, but at least we didn’t have to deal with any of her romantic entanglements with married people so that’s a plus, the thing is even with this formula I Kinda, like the stories in a roll, your eyes kind of way.

A step up - this one got a little better than earlier books.

Like this series…just not the right time for this book- will come back to it later

I'm working my way through these alphabetically. I think I started around L when I first started reading. They are a little uneven in the beginning but this one started to feel like the Kinsey I knew.
