"Everyone imagines themselves a freedom fighter."
Though an imperfect ending, Mirrored Heavens was an emotionally charge and mostly apt ending. The pacing is a bit off, the first half of the book being too much buildup that could've been condensed while the climax is a little rushed (everything in between though was GREAT). But with that said, and without getting into spoilers, I found this to be a very emotionally charged finale and teared up a little after finishing it.
I also really loved how this thematically wraps up the series, to me its about how humanity isn't something you can forfeit, that no matter what you are a person with dreams and desires. This final book was also just beautifully written and continued expanding this lush world building, would love to read more books in this world if Rebecca Roanhorse writes any.
Now, on my more spoilery thoughts that are a bit less well written:
• Serapio my son I was so worried about you oh god I am so glad he survived I don't care that it doesn't make sense world building wise.
• Xiala's arc of going from rugged pirate to building relationships and learning to really care, essentially softening up, but still being allowed to be powerful just agdyfgrfgyeyfgyfg love her!
• Xiala really said "I can't fix him, but I can accept him for who he is and choose to find the atrocities hot"
• Naranpa was done a bit dirty, not only should she have gotten to fight Serapio, but her and Iktan have such an open-ended tragic ending that doesn't sit right. Like wake her up??? I could see maybe a spinoff about Iktan trying to wake her though.
• Iktan and Nara's wedding also made me tear up a little and made me very scared something bad would happen to one of them (which something bad did, in fact, happen)
• Did Nara and Xiala ever interact in this series??????
• This book finally made me kind of like Okoa like man is kind of king of taking the L. Really love how he weirdly bonded with Serapio.
• I really love that all these characters would've gotten along in any other world where things were better.

The end felt a bit rushed and not so well crafted, compared to the first half of the book that took a lot of time.
