5 stars for all the joy this book brought me. Science? A prophecy? Shenanigans? Murder? Magic? All that and more! There are some issues with the pacing. And like book 2, this one spent so much time building for the war
...which was over in a day. But we did get a lot of character and world development, and if you aren't in love with at least one of the delightfully flawed beings you've met on this adventure, then I don't know what book you read. I definitely laugh cried reading the ending.

Overall for a regular fantasy book I'd have given it 4 at least but for this series, for how amazing books 1 and 2 were, this was sadly not as good. Still good, just not GREAT like the first two.

I have no words. I love this series. I loved the characters, the plot was interesting and kept me guessing, and the ending was emotional. I was routing for almost all of the characters to get what they wanted, which I realized was not possible but I just didn't want any of them to lose, except Balam... that guy was the worst and I was wishing for his death for basically the whole series! All in all, great series. 10/10 would recommend.

I loved so many things about this book and the whole trilogy. Primary is the beautiful, messy existence of the characters. Not one of them was clearly all good or all bad, they held so much conflict within themselves. They each had so many voices/powers trying to command who they were and yet found their paths forward. As I finished this book in tears I was reminded how often pain and beauty walk hand in hand. Rebecca Roanhorse so artfully tells the stories of Xiala, Serapio, Naranpa and Iktan. My heart broke multiple times. It took me a little bit to get into the book at first. The start was slower, but I think it was the moment Okoa decided he would kill his god, that I was absolutely sucked in to the world and the story again. Rebecca, Thank you for sharing your writing with us!
