I loved so many things about this book and the whole trilogy. Primary is the beautiful, messy existence of the characters. Not one of them was clearly all good or all bad, they held so much conflict within themselves. They each had so many voices/powers trying to command who they were and yet found their paths forward. As I finished this book in tears I was reminded how often pain and beauty walk hand in hand. Rebecca Roanhorse so artfully tells the stories of Xiala, Serapio, Naranpa and Iktan. My heart broke multiple times. It took me a little bit to get into the book at first. The start was slower, but I think it was the moment Okoa decided he would kill his god, that I was absolutely sucked in to the world and the story again. Rebecca, Thank you for sharing your writing with us!

Powerful first book
Second book stumbles and slows
This book drops the ball so hard no one can play with the ball any more, it's no longer a ball, the company won't make the ball anymore

Enjoyable conclusion to the trilogy! This really is one of the most fascinating and engaging fantasy worlds I've had the pleasure of reading, and I'd gladly read more in this 'verse should the author return! I continued to really struggle with Naranpa's character and storyline, and there were some aspects of the plot that could have used a bit of resolution, but on the whole it was incredibly engaging. I found the ending a little un-satisfying, but in a way that did feel realistic. Overall a very solid series, and I'll absolutely be keeping an eye out for more from this author.

loved coming back to this world and all the complex issues this author tackles with the fantasy elements. we see our characters struggle against their faith, and what it means to be good and evil and also battle against what fate has decreed for them. i especially loved the ending and the hope it left for the characters
