Tehehe I just love darling little Serapio /) u (\ he's so cute.

I feel like the writing style just makes everything a little monotonous because when I think about explaining what happened I'm like actually that's really cool and should have been exciting! But it was so chill. At times boring.

I wish this had been a duology. There were pov characters that didn't need as much time as they took.

I love Serapio and I wish it was more focused on him. Like why did I have to learn so much about the city and the priests and their little inner squabbles when it really didn't do anything for the story overall? I would love to have had that info in just a chapter or two. I feel like that with so many things in these books.

The deaths that do happen I'm like aw ☹️ But I don't f e e l them. I don't think I would ever recommend these books because they are so long and so slow and the ending--I do like it! Very cute!! But--also doesn't feel satisfying because it's delivered in such a 'and that's what happened' way.

But I do think it's fun and visual and interesting! The writing style just wasn't for me.

Serapio, my beloved. ♡♡♡

I remembered loving the early books in this series, but it took so long to get this one from the library I had no recollection of the dynamics of place and people. So with the multiple POVs from different places and times and perspectives, it took a solid 40% of this book before I felt like I was back with a handle on the different dynamics. A little more referencing back early on would have helped a lot. It built well and closed well and still had so many fascinating dynamics.

The story is really, really good. The characters as well. I enjoy the mythology and world building and could spend 10 books in Roanhorse's creation. There were a few things that were hard to follow however. I do think there were one too many plot lines and too many characters, and too many characters with similar sounding names. The book could have been a little cleaner in terms of narration. Overall, it's a really solid series that I recommend.

Yikes. This one got away from her. The first half was fantastic—especially Xiala’s storyline. But it felt like the avatars became too much for her (especially Serapio)…I suppose it’s hard to give gods humanity…Either way, the first two books were beautiful, and I still feel grateful to have encountered this series!
