Meh? Like I just don’t understand how immense the hype is? Like this was fine: medium interesting magic system, slightly interesting romance but like not handled or developed really well, pretty annoying main character. I just, meh

I hated this book because I have already read the story it was literally Divergent with sprinkles of ACOTAR and Game of Thrones like RY incorporated all these elements but did not make it better at all. Violet was one of the most annoying characters I have ever read, her vocabulary only consisted of her saying the f-bomb every other sentence, it's like she's a 6th grader cursing for the first time...shut up. There were so many "shocking" moments that give you whiplash but at the same time it really did not give the full impact because of how bad the writing was. Why were the dragons who are like 600 years old talking like that like they should be these all knowing creatures but they are talking as if they are teenagers. You would think that after Violet bonds with 2 DRAGONS she would grow a freaking back bone but she still playing victim. And on top of that she was able to bond with 2 dragons just because she was smart...be so forreal. And don't get me started on that dumb nickname...VIOLENCE????...ewwwww. The ENTIRE book all she's saying is I am so weak and fragile, girl can barely stay on the dragons like oh my gosh.
This should have been a YA book just because of the writing style but it was obvious she aged up the characters to write the smut scenes which were so forced. Like yes Xaden seems like a nice guy but we were forced to like him. This book was advertised as an enemies to lovers but there was no enemies, the second they see each other they want each other like what. What was the point of Dain if she only liked him in the first page and then after that got the ick. Unpopular opinion but Dain was not that bad like we were forced to hate him because Xaden is "better". Dain was just worried about Violet because of her condition but she gets angry when he says that to her but when Xaden says it she doesn't get mad at him, and we just ignore it because its Xaden. And then when Dain betrays her it isn't as impactful because she only cared about Xaden and not Dain. It should have been written in a way where Dain and Violet are super close and she has these feelings for Xaden but is trying really hard to push those away because Dain is perfect on paper. And like this gets the best of Dain and he betrays her on accident or just something. But Violet never gave Dain a chance so everything he does is wrong or bad. Like Dain stealing her memories is not fine but when Xaden is spying on her that's fine because he's hot and they are in love...okay. And then, they killed off my favorite character. I liked Liam because he left Violet alone, he did his job and didn't bother anybody. Her brother coming back does not make sense because did his dragon know? like I thought having that bond would let them know or something.
Anyways not a single original thought went into writing this book and it shows.
