Alright, I’m on an awesome streak this time. This was extremely cute. Small town, grumpy sunshine, bad boy and good girl… and also funny and meaningful at the same time. I loved everything about it, especially the town and the supporting characters. There was just enough mystery to keep me hooked, and more than enough heart to keep me invested. I laughed out loud a few times, and I even teared up more than once.

I can’t wait to read more from this author!

Quotes

The handshake went on longer than necessary. “Why are their fingers turning white?” Waylay asked me.
“It’s a man thing,” I explained.
She looked skeptical. “Like pooping for forty-five minutes?”
“Yeah, something like that,” I said.

“The first time he met me, he called me trash.”
“That bitch.”
“Well, technically he thought I was Tina when he was yelling at me in front of an entire cafe full of strangers.”
“That vision-impaired bitch.”
“God, I love you.”

“There’s no sex happening with the beast. He called me ‘needy’ and ‘uppity’ and a ‘pain in his ass.’ He’s rude. He’s constantly yelling at me or complaining about me. Telling me I’m not his type. As if I wished I were his type,” I scoffed.
“Why are you whispering?”
“Because he lives right there,” I said, pointing my glass in the direction of Knox’s cabin.
“Oooh. Grumpy next-door neighbor. That’s one of my favorite tropes.”

“You can’t be serious. I have work.”
“Baby, I don’t joke about sex. Besides, you work for me.”
“Yeah. In your bar, which is full of PMS-ing women waiting for their pretzels.”
I shook my head. “Everyone in town knows it’s a Code Red. It’ll be a slow night.”
“I am really uncomfortable with the idea of an entire town tracking its women’s menstrual cycles.”
“Hey, we’re normalizing period shit,” I argued.

“This is what it’s like living in my brain.”
“It’s fucking exhausting.”
“It is. And the one time I do something that’s purely selfish and just for me, it blows up in my face.”
“What did you do for you?” I asked.
“I had a one-night stand with a grumpy, tattooed barber.”

“That’s the thing about a small town,” Jeremiah said. “Everyone’s business is everyone’s business.”
“Yeah? Well, everyone can kiss my ass.”
“He definitely seems much happier since he got out of that terrible relationship,” Stasia said.

“How did soccer practice go? I meant to swing by but—”
“It’s okay. You don’t have to pretend. Aunt Naomi ’n me are used to people not wanting us.”
“Way, that’s not fucking fair. That’s not why things didn’t work out between your aunt and me.”
“Whatever. You probably shouldn’t swear in front of kids. They might learn something from you.”

“When you trust someone to see you for who you really are, the betrayal is a thousand times worse than if you hadn’t handed them the weapons in the first place,” Lucian spoke quietly.

“Unfortunately, Viking, those are your only two choices. Someone once told me in this very room that it doesn’t matter how shitty the options are. It’s still a choice.”

A bit too cliché for me. Also too many different plot lines - the ex fiance, the crime lord, the secondary love stories...

I love this book so much. When I first started reading I didn’t think I’d like it, but it’s a really good book!

this took forever cos i didn’t realise the book was about 600 bastard pages long ahhhh, my slow reading struggled. it dragged soo bad in the beginning, all the characters had me irritated and i was uninterested to the point where i thought i was not gonna love it as much as i did. when it got to the 200 page mark i was hooooked. first book i read on kindle too so it took a while to get used to it.
knox, omg
why do men like him just not exist??? why do men written by women not exist?? pls explain
this is ur classic grumpy/sunshine trope but also enemies to lovers which combined is my absolute fave. i loved the chemistry between knox and naomi, and the buildup had me so invested in all the small things and the development of their relationship. i understand why this book had to be so long now and it’s to build their relationship and have them gradually go from enemies to lovers without it feeling forced or rushed. in the beginning the speech was a bit, cringey? all she talks about is how much of a coffee addict she is and she’s described as the perfect sister with perfect boobs, hair, makeup, teeth etc etc. which is not a bad thing but when you feel like that’s their only personality trait it’s a bit meh. at that point i was ready to give it a 2.5 at a push and just stop reading but i’m soo glad i carried on. this book had my heart on a high and low. i loved it so much.
waylay too nawww i love when there’s a child involved in books and the mc is clearly mother material, it reminded me reminders of him by colleen hoover and the writer portrayed her love for her so well
quotes:

“And there it was again. That electricity charging my blood, waking up my body like it had been exposed to some kind of threat. Some kind of danger.”
“How long would it take before she’d spout off something smart, and I’d pin her to a wall and kiss her just to shut her up?”
“Future reference, Daze. My problem is always you.”
“Because sometimes people don’t know how to ask for what they really need. You needed a hug.” “No. I didn’t,” he rasped. He was quiet for a long moment, and I listened to his heartbeat. “I needed you.”

“Then you run like hell. I don’t give a shit about causing scenes. I give a shit that I walked into my bar and found a man with his hands on my girl.”

“I don’t think my heart is safe around you.”

“Those curtains stayed closed until you,” I whispered.
