So exciting to start a new Stephenson series! Really enjoyed this one and meeting all the characters! The main character Dawn is amazing, and it's great to follow her on her adventures around the world into so many different cultures. Stephenson's careful research and gift for worldbuilding take you right into places like the Century of Progress World's fair in Chicago, and the early Soviet Union. My only problem with this book was that it was so short! Can't wait for the next one.

I like Stephenson's writing so this was enjoyable, but it really feels structured like the first part of a book rather than the first part of a trilogy which is a problem. The book doesn't really stand on its own

The book feels like it's just background information for the upcoming books in the series. While there were several cool historic moments covered, overall the book feels too disjointed. I am not likely to continue reading the series.
