Historically interesting and a (relatively) fast-paced spy thriller set in pre-WWI England. The protagonist, Richard Hannay, is the missing link between Sherlock Holmes and James Bond in the evolutionary chain of adventure sleuths.

Really fun and silly and properly gripping too

I think that everyone in the early 1900s was a little insane. Like the amount of lead poisoning they probably were exposed to had driven them absolutely mad. And that's what makes this book so entertaining. Because why was the main character just so up for becoming a spy???? He literally had no objection to this he was just like "Oh so this is my life now ok" and just went with anything??? AND THEN STOPPED THE CONSPIRACY??? Or tried to at least. Like he was out here doing the most all because he was BORED in ENGLAND. I think he might be my hero.

week 3 of scottish literature. this week we tackled the 39 steps and i must say this kept my on my toes for the most part. following a man “on the run” after being accused of murder, this book was very adventurous and i loved how it was set in the highlands! a spy-thriller, i enjoyed!

A bit of fun and a nice quick read to build up my reading tally (I'm no longer falling behind, yay!). Not exactly my idea of spectacular writing or storytelling, but engrossing enough.
