3.5 stars. While the unnamed narrator is at times grating, Nolan's prose and nonlinear structure kept me engaged and desperate to see how it would end. However, an out for me this year: recurring discussions and passages about weight and limited food intake as a means of inflicting self-punishment and gaining approval from others. Not because I don't think it's relevant and can't be written about tastefully, but because I am personally just tired of thinking about it.
