The mystery part was great but felt like the romance part was too bland - I loved the FMC and MMC together but there were times when it was hard to feel the chemistry between the two.
I was surprised, and I can’t decide yet if it’s a good or a bad thing.
I fell in love with Claire Kingsley’s books when I read the Bailey Brothers series. From then on, I’ve read her other series, The Miles’ (forgot the actual series name) and then this.
It was so touching she’s writing a series about the Haven brothers which was a big part of the Bailey Brothers series. Not to mention that dedication was too cute and wholesome.
Sadly, I didn’t enjoy this as much as I thought I would. I was so excited for this. I haven’t even finished the last book in the her other series and I think that’s because I waited too long for it that the hype of the entire series for me died down.
There are a few reasons why I think this book is just meh for me.
1. The length. I usually don’t mind long books but it becomes obvious and a concern when it drags on. I don’t think this book needed to be this long; it would have been the same if she cut off at least 100-150 pages.
2. The romance. It started out well, it was so cute too. But I wasn’t exactly sold on how soon everything fell into place. I wanted more angst and resistance to make things more interesting, and to milk all the possible romantic and swoon-worthy moments. I got bored towards the 70% mark and didn’t care much for the romance anymore.
3. The mystery. It was so exciting at first! I couldn’t put it down because I wanted to unmask the perpetrator already. I was so invested but when bits and pieces were being given as bread crumbs, I felt the disappointment creep in. It was too basic and not creative, it was unlike her (the author). Honestly, it could’ve been just me setting high expectations, hoping for a complicated plot twist but I didn’t like the one we got. It’s not that it’s bad, it was just too simple and unimaginative.
Will this deter me from reading her other books in the future? A BIG FAT NO. I still find joy in her stories and I am excited to read about the other Haven brothers! Luke and Zach are very interesting so far.

Loved it! I loved the Bailey Brothers and I am glad the Mason Brothers are having their stories told as well! I missed the quirky little town of Tilikum and the crazy squirrels. Although I did miss the lack of squirrel trouble in this book. I hope each brother gets to have a story and a happy ending. Hope we get to see more of the Baileys too!
